workshop:
Developing Puppet Characterization

This workshop is about creating the skills necessary to make an audience believe the puppet is a real personality rather than an animated wooden figure. Sessions will focus on developing and performing characters of dimension. Specifically we will explore elements of script-writing, developing a train of thought, expanding movement vocabulary, and conveying the puppet’s personality and emotions to the audience. Although the workshop will use hand puppets, the performance techniques (other than basic hand puppet manipulation exercises) are applicable to all types of puppets.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Please bring writing materials and wear comfortable clothes.

MATERIALS FEE: none

MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 8

Note: workshops are not open to the public. You must be registered for the entire festival to attend.
