workshop:

VENTRILOQUISM D.I. (Deep Immersion)

During each day of this course participants will practice vocal warm-up exercises, learn the principles of ventriloquism, and subtle techniques of manipulation and misdirection to give the puppet a more distinct personality and realism. After the first day, ventriloquism will be used exclusively to talk in class. During the course we will work on the physical appearance, personality/character, and voice of our ventriloquist partner. I will describe how I make an artificial arm for those who want to use this illusion in their act. We will discuss various approaches to writing scripts and dialogue to use in a ventriloquist act and practice performing with our new puppet partners. On Day 4 we will practice and polish a short 3 to 5 minute set which we will then perform in class and for other Festival participants.
