workshop:

VENTRILOQUISM: AN ANCIENT ART DEMYSTIFIED!

During each day of this course participants will practice vocal warm-up exercises, learn the principles of ventriloquism, and subtle techniques of manipulation and misdirection to give the puppet a more distinct personality and realism. During the first two days of the course we will also make a simple hand-mouth puppet from poly foam and cloth to use as our ventriloquist partner. I will also describe how to make an artificial arm for those who want to use this illusion in their act. On Day Three we will discuss various approaches to writing scripts and dialogue to use in a ventriloquist act and practice performing with our new puppet partners. On Day Four we will practice and polish a short 3-5 minute set which we will then perform for the rest of the class and at the final recital.

Note: workshops are not open to the public. You must be registered for the entire festival to attend.
