Workshop:
Needle Felted Hand Puppets
“Needle felting is my favorite medium for constructing puppets. My puppet shop is cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and when it is most comfortable, I am busy in the schools. Needle Felted Puppets can be made in comfort! This method of puppet construction allows me to sit next to the window by the bird feeder in a most comfy chair with my feet up and a basket of soft, fluffy wool beside me, as I make a vast array of charming puppets WITHOUT getting wet, spreading stuff on every flat surface in the house, or getting poisoned!”
Learn the techniques involved in making needle felted puppets. If you have already been introduced to this style of construction, come again and learn some advanced techniques and try a different style of puppet. Participants will each create two puppets. This method of puppet construction is very exploratory, and Pam encourages her students to do the same. Her goal for participants in this class is for them to learn a method of construction that is just the beginning of their experiences with needle felting. Although they may be focusing on hand puppets in the workshop, she will also show examples of other styles of puppets made by the same technique, and participants will have time to make an additional puppet of their choice.
Needle felting is a great project to do while sitting about and chatting. Each day, a different topic concerning puppet performance will be introduced. In addition to constructing puppets, getting to know one another and having intellectual conversations about the art of puppetry (my, doesn’t that sound stuffy) the group will put something together for the Saturday sharing session.
Note: workshops are not open to the public. You must be registered for the entire festival to attend. |
