workshop:

THE PLOT THICKENS

A writing workshop emphasizing the tools to transform a vague show idea into a tautly-structured, dramatic story with compelling characters that engage and move your audiences. This workshop is revised and expanded from the 2003 San Diego Puppet Theatre Writers’ Conference. It was conducted at PuppetFest MidWest 2004, to the following reviews:

“The only one that could do this was Luman - and so quickly - amazing! He was a wonderful teacher, very supportive and encouraging to students - running the gamut from novice to very professional."

“We were given ample time to work on our own scripts. The instructor was helpful but not domineering. The group shared experiences and everyone worked very hard.”

Note: workshops are not open to the public. You must be registered for the entire festival to attend.

Luman Coad
Coad Canada Puppets

Frequently called "one of North America’s leading puppet theatres", Coad Canada Puppets was founded in 1966 by Arlyn and Luman Coad. The company has performed throughout North America as well as seventeen countries across Europe, the Middle East, South America, and the Pacific Rim. The Canadian Department of External Affairs has sponsored nine of the international tours.

The troupe has won numerous major puppetry awards including First Prize at the 1977 International Festival of Puppet-Actors in Poland, and both the Puppeteers of America Trustees’ Award and the President’s Award (the highest honours in North American puppetry). The American Centre of l’Union Internationale de la Marionnette has awarded the Coads six Citations of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry. They are frequent performers and lecturers at North American and international puppetry festivals and have taught their art at several universities.
